ACTIVITIES:

Full day trips into Kruger National Park

The Kruger park is just a few minutes away from camp, which means that we can get in as early as possible and spend as much time as we like inside the park for the duration of the day. One can expect to see a multitude of wild animals, including the Big 5 and beautiful nature scenes! We also visit picnic sites (for enjoying awesome picnics obviously), lookout points and the different attractions of the areas that we do visit. Combining your stay with day trips into Kruger in a comfortable vehicle guided by experienced and enthusiastic guides at a very affordable price, makes this one of our most popular additional activities!

Elephant back safaris at Camp Jabulani

We have morning safari’s 365 days a year! At first the guests will be introduced to the elephants through a fascinating introductory speech on elephants and their behavior in general.  We also highlight interesting facts about their anatomy and how these magnificent creatures are adapted to their life in the African bush.  During this session you will be allowed to get up close and personal with our friendly herd of pachyderms, allowing for many exciting photo opportunities.  After this short session, we then move over to the exciting part of the excursion: mounting the elephants in preparation for your elephant back safari.  We then set off on our safari, walking slowly through the bush, observing the abundant fauna and flora around us, stopping at special sightings and for the occasional photo opportunity.  After about an hour or so on elephant back, your safari terminates and you will have the opportunity to browse at the Curio shop.

Wildlife rehabilitation centre

Situated in the shadow of the majestic “Mariepskop” our unique conservancy is home to many wild animals. Wherever possible, rehabilitated birds and animals are returned to the wild and those that are not so fortunate due to the nature and extent of their injuries are used to educate the many people who visit us each year.

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre contributes to the conservation of endangered species and the rehabilitation of injured & poisoned wildlife. It also facilitates a number of successful breeding programs.

 ANIMALS TO BE SEEN:

Lion, Leopard, Serval, Honey Badger, Eagles, Vultures, Wild Dogs and any baby animals that we may have at the time of your visit.

A visit to the centre will stimulate awareness and understanding of the plight which our wildlife faces today.

Walk with the wild

Interested in doing a bush walk with a difference? Have a chance not only to walk in the wild but with the wild. Here you have the unique opportunity to go on a bush walk and have some habituated wild animals accompany you. The animals differ from time to time but include the likes of Lions, Cheetahs and Elephants. All walks are lead by knowledgeable and experienced guides/rangers.  This definitely gives you the opportunity to experience nature from a different perspective and have a chance to interact with these wonderful animals at a more personal level. It includes a breakfast afterward at which you can relax and just absorb in the experience.

 Reptile centre

Go visit a reptile research and breeding centre, where you will experience a side of nature that is often overlooked because of the elusive nature of these creatures and the negative ideas connected to them. Learn about the important roles that they play in the ecosystem and have a chance to view them in safety. You will have an opportunity to see a wide variety of reptiles, arachnids, bird and even primates. There are special demonstrations and for those interested there is a chance of conquering your fears.

BOAT TRIPS

Enjoy the splendor of the third largest Canyon in the world. Unquestionably being the largest 'green canyon' due to its lush subtropical foliage.  An interpretation tour by a tour guide will take you to the you to the rare living Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondavels.  An abundance of wildlife will keep you distracted while learning more about the natural history of the Blyde Canyon.

The Blyde River canyon supports large diversity of life, including numerous fish and antelope species as well as Hippos and Crocodiles, primate species and a diversity of birdlife such as the African Fish Eagle, African Finfoot and much more.

Possibly the best view in the whole of the Blyde River Canyon is of the the "Three Rondavels", huge, round rocks, thought to be reminiscent of the houses or huts of the indigenous people, known as rondavels.

The Canyon is famous for the Kadishi Tufa waterfall. At 200m (around 660 feet) in height it is the second tallest tufa waterfall on earth.  In the case of the Kadishi Tufa fall, the formation that has been produced strikingly resembles a face which is crying profusely, and is thus sometimes known as 'the weeping face of nature.

OTHER:

There are numerous other activities on offer in the area including:

Quad biking, hiking, hot-air balloon safaris, white water rafting, abseiling, mountain biking, safaris at other game lodges in the area and many more which could be arranged on request. Please feel free to e-mail us if any further information is required.

Birding Safaris

Kruger National Park Birding Safari

birds_8The Kruger National Park provides an astonishing array of wilderness areas, diverse habitats, easy road access together with a wide variety of bird species. The diverse range of habitats caters for a bird list of over 500 species, while the productivity of these habitats is such that many species occur in abundance. Spotting birds in the Kruger National Park is relatively easy.

Depending on the season, one could expect to find about 200 species in about a week, if you know where to go. C’mon do it... ask us!

We usually prefer the habitats from the south and far north as the best birding areas. The Pafuri area is very good for spotting some specials!

birds_2Seasons:

The best time to view birds in the Kruger national park is during the wetter, but a lot hotter, Summer months (October to March), but birding is still very good during the drier Winter months.

Some specials we target in the Pafuri are:

birds_3Wattle-eyed flycatcher, yellow white-eye, Icterine warbler, marsh warbler, river warbler, thrush nightingale, lemon-breasted canary, greyheaded parrot, mottled spinetail, Bohm's spinetail, African finfoot, Dickinson's kestrel, thickbilled cuckoo, crested guineafowl, Pel's fishing owl, rock martin, goldenbacked pytilia, burnt-necked eremomela, rackettailed roller, broad-billed roller, yellowbilled oxpecker, whitebacked night heron, brown-backed honeybird, narina trogon, Eastern nicator, silverycheeked hornbill, mangrove kingfisher and African pitta.
